The driver’s eye and eyelid movements measured by Optalert cannot be measured accurately by a video camera. There are several reasons for this: a camera can not always see the driver’s eyes when large head movements are made, for example when using a rear-vision mirror; the video images will have interference if the driver wears prescription glasses or sunglasses, or if there is bright sunlight. None of these problems arise with Optalert glasses.
